The property also has almond trees and a few quince trees. The area is one of outstanding natural beauty, pure mountain air and magnificent star-studded night skies.
There are four bedrooms. Two double bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite bathroom, and two twin bedrooms one of which is downstairs. The family bathroom with walk-in shower is downstairs and the pool wetroom has a shower, WC and wash hand basin. There is a fully tiled 10 metre swimming pool surrounded by terraces and garden of about eighteen by twelve metres from which to enjoy the stunning views. Another twenty by five metre terrace runs the length of the house and the parking area inside the main gates is approximately twenty two by fourteen metres.
There is a separate dining room with a log burning, cast iron fire. The newly fitted kitchen has another table and chairs and a gas range stove with seven rings, two ovens and a grill and an extractor fan above. Solid granite worktops, a dishwasher and a large fridge and freezer complete the kitchen. The lounge benefits from another log burning cast iron fire. The main bedroom has an air conditioning unit with reverse warm air heating for winter. The property also enjoys the benefit of two spacious porches, one at the front of the house and one by the pool which provide essential respite from the summer sun. Whilst the house has been renovated to provide modern, comfortable living it has been done in such a way as to preserve the rustic integrity of its past and has many and varied features to illustrate this.
An efficient solar water heating system has been installed, giving up to 350 litres of hot water at a time. There is an electric back-up to the same system should there be no sun. A separate second gas water heater has been installed also. The house has its own water well and water is pumped from there to storage containers ready for use. This is done by pre-programmed timer but can also be pumped at any time. The property is very economical to run with very low monthly outgoings which are telephone, electricity and gas, and firewood. Rates are annual and minimal.
The cortijo, although situated in the countryside, has good roads to the village of Illora which is less than ten minutes drive away. In the village there is a health centre with twenty four hour cover, two chemists with one always available for emergency, several banks, a large school for junior and senior pupils, many bars, bakeries, shops, supermarkets etc. This is a predominantly Spanish speaking area but several British families have moved here within the last few years. Those with children of school age go to the local school and have integrated well into the local education system. |
